Ratna Pathak talks about current film industry scenario; says, “It is a very good time for actors of all ages and genders”

Prime Video’s latest offering, Happy Family: Conditions Apply has been getting rave reviews and immense appreciation from viewers. The family comedy series revolves around a joint family of four generations living under one roof, stirring humour and drama. It's a tale of togetherness while spilling humour off their antiques and collective differences. In an interview, Ratna Pathak talks about the shift film industry experienced over the years.

When asked if she feels times have changed for good in the film industry, Ratna Pathak Shah told India Today, “It is certainly becoming easier for women of my age to get work. I don’t believe in the kind of work that is designed around an actor. I don’t find that very interesting, frankly, because when you focus on the actor rather than the story, then you get limited by the personality of the actor. I won’t get the chance to challenge myself. It is a very good time for actors of all ages and genders, not just the binary to work.”

 

Further comparing old and new films, Ratna stated, “Suddenly, the world is becoming interested in how you live your life. I love that shuffling. Will we continue that way? We will see. God knows. I have hope too. But we have moved ahead in that direction and there is no going back. Ab dobara woh saddi hui formula wali filmein nahi suna payenge. Shukr hai (No more will the formula films work. Thank God).”

 

Happy Family: Conditions Apply is created by Jamnadas Majethia and Aatish Kapadia, under the banner Hats Off Productions. The first four episodes are streaming now on Prime Video, followed by two new episodes releasing every Friday until March 31. The series stars an ensemble cast comprising Ratna Pathak Shah, Raj Babbar, Atul Kulkarni, Ayesha Julka, Raunaq Kamdar, Meenal Sahu, Sanah Kapur, and Ahaan Saboo in pivotal roles.
