Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his warm congratulatory wishes to veteran actress Waheeda Rehman for being honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her remarkable contribution to Indian cinema.

Prime Minister Modi, taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), expressed his delight at the news and celebrated Waheeda Rehman's enduring impact on the world of cinema.

 

He penned a heartfelt message that read, "Delighted that Waheeda Rehman Ji has been honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award. Her journey in Indian cinema has left an indelible mark. A beacon of talent, dedication, and grace, she embodies the best of our cinematic heritage. Congratulations to her."

 

 

 

Waheeda Rehman, upon receiving this prestigious accolade, shared her gratitude and sentiments with ANI. She asserted, “I am happy. This is a big award from the government. I want to thank I&B Minister Anurag Thakur for it. In the films I did, I often kept in mind that there should be progressive ideas, women should be allowed to do whatever they want to do because, for centuries, women were not allowed to move forward, study and write. So they were suppressed when they also had talent.”

 

Throughout her illustrious career spanning five decades, Waheeda Rehman has graced over 90 films and earned several accolades, including a National Film Award and three Filmfare Awards. The Government of India has also recognized her contributions with the Padma Shri in 1972 and the Padma Bhushan in 2011.
