“It’s not just a film for me,” says Akshay Kumar as Khiladi completes 28 years

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar made his debut in 1991 with the film Saugandh. However, it was the film Khiladi that released a year later in 1992 that boosted his career. The name Khiladi went on to be synonymous with him. The film completes 28 years today and Akshay Kumar is still known as Khiladi Kumar.

As the film completes 28 years, filmmakers Abbas-Mustan took to Twitter to mark the special day reminding Akshay Kumar of it. “Dear @akshaykumar Today it’s 28 years since the release of Khiladi, our first film together. Feeling nostalgic. Remembering the entire team specially @iamjohnylever bhai." The filmmaker duo also shared an old picture back from the day where they can be seen posing with Akshay Kumar.

 

 

Responding to their tweet, Akshay Kumar wrote, "How can I forget Abbas Mustan bhai...it’s not just a film for me but a stepping stone in my career, a title which is now synonymous with me. Thank you for giving me #Khiladi"

 

 

Owing to the popularity of the film and the title being synonymous with Akshay Kumar, the actor was then cast in several films with Khiladi in the title. Sabse Bada Khiladi, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, International Khiladi, Khiladi 420, Mr and Mrs Khiladi, were some of the films that worked wonders for the actor. However, none of the films were sequels to the original.
