Madhuri Dixit starrer Mrs Deshpande ready for streaming, the actress plays a serial killer in the Applause Entertainment show

In JioHotstar and Applause Entertainment’s upcoming show Mrs. Deshpande, which starts streaming very soon, Madhuri Dixit will make the audience swoon. Madhuri appears as never before. She plays a housewife stripped of all artifice. It is said to be her most authentic performance since Prakash Jha’s Mrityudand and one that is expected to fetch her all the critical encomium and awards that she can possibly hope for.

Produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Kukunoor Movies and directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, Mrs. Deshpande introduces us to a Madhuri Dixit we’ve never witnessed — raw, stripped back, and powerfully real. An avatar that doesn’t shine, but stares back.

 

Ever since she returned from the US in 2011 with her husband and two sons, Madhuri Dixit has been looking for performing challenges. It looks like she has finally found one.

 

In a series entitled Mrs Deshpande, directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, Ms Dixit will play the eponymous part of a, hold your breath, serial killer. The series is inspired by the 2017 French series The Mantis in which Carole Bouquet played Jeanne Deber, a serial killer who offers her expertise to the police in order to help hunt down a copycat killer.

 

While Madhuri Dixit is not allowed to speak of Mrs Deshpande, she did express her appreciation for the OTT space to this writer once. “There are so many kinds of roles being written for streaming services, and that really provides us, actors, with the opportunity to explore our craft and challenge ourselves as artistes. That is something I find exciting. Stories on OTT platforms are quite unique, and a lot of them have women as the focal point, which is great!”

 

Madhuri feels it is the Golden Era for women in the film industry. “OTT platforms are a medium of connection between so many countries and their stories in the form of movies and series. These streaming services have made women the highlight of a lot of the content that goes out to the world. Hence, it’s a wonderful time of diversity that has risen because of OTT.”
