Kriti Sanon DOMINATES the list of most viewed songs of 2024; trade hail her for her back-to-back Rs. 100 crore worldwide gross successes: “She is having the last laugh now because those who wrote her off, made memes, especially after a string of flops, are now SILENT”

The first quarter of 2024 is over and the only actress who has had two major releases in the first three months is Kriti Sanon. Both these films – Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Crew – have been decent successes at the box office. Both collected Rs. 100 crores worldwide gross – the first time she achieved this feat back-to-back – and hence, January – March 2024 has been a golden period for Kriti. In a year or two, she'll also get into the list of All Time Top 10 Actresses charts at the India box office, which is surely a huge feat for her. At present, she is in the 11th position as the total collection of all her films is Rs. 1,034 crores. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja is in no 10 position with the cumulative collections of her films amounting to Rs. 1,259.80 crores. In other words, Kriti Sanon’s upcoming films need to collect Rs. 225.80 crores so that the actress can create history. Looking at the way things are going, it shouldn’t be a difficult task.

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh expressed awe for the talented actress over the top 10 feat, “This is huge, after what she went through.”

 

He explained, “Ours is a very ruthless industry with cutthroat competition. You are as good or bad as your last Friday. The last couple of Fridays (before Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Crew) were not too good for Kriti even though she had invested so much hard work as an actor on these films. People in the industry do remember your performance but everything takes a backseat when the film doesn’t work. There are umpteen examples where the actors did very well but the movie didn’t work. So, everything is forgotten because your balance sheet is what eventually matters. Day 1 collections, weekend collections, lifetime collections – that’s all that people talk about because the stakes are high. Hence, for an actor, putting up a fine performance is one part. But waiting for a hit to come in depends on luck, performance, overall content etc.

 

Taran Adarsh felt that her choice of films was correct but fate had different plans, “On paper, a film with Prabhas is very lucrative, especially when it’s based on Ramayana. Sadly, Adipurush (2023) turned out to be a horrible film and met a terrible fate at the box office. Even the actors had to take the brunt of it. Ditto for Panipat (2019), which was not even a bad film.”

 

Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, remarked, “The good part is that she’s trying to do varied roles. She was appreciated in Mimi (2021). Her work in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Crew have stood out. It’s a good sign for her and also the film fraternity at large because we are no longer dependent on certain top male actors. The better the female actors are performing at the box office, the better it is for us.”

 

He continued, “It adds to your credibility when you are doing different kinds of films. She is not stuck to one particular image. That also adds to the longevity of an actor.”

 

Trade analyst Atul Mohan observed that her behaviour and work ethic have also been noticed and appreciated, “She is a fine girl. She always meets people with respect. She has worked patiently all these years. Often, actors take the wrong step in frustration when things are not going in their favour. But she was patient and kept working hard. And now she’s getting her due. Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya worked and the day it completed 50 days, Crew was released.”

What also went in favour of Kriti Sanon is that the songs of Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya as well as Crew were huge hits. Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya's title song has amassed 177 million views as of April 12. It is the most-viewed song of 2024 to date. 'Akhiyaan Gulaab' meanwhile has 98 million views to date and will soon cross the 100 million views mark. It's the second-most-viewed song this year. The songs of Fighter - 'Ishq Jaisa Kuch' and 'Sher Khul Gaye' - take the third and fourth position. But the next three slots are also taken over by Kriti. 'Laal Peeli Akhiyaan' enjoys 65 million views and counting. Crew's 'Choli Ke Peeche' also has a similar number of views while 'Naina' stands at 57 million views.

 

Taran Adarsh said, “For an actor, it’s important to have hit music. When Madhuri Dixit delivered ‘Ek Do Teen’ and ‘Choli Ke Peeche’, her stardom beyond metros increased tenfold. To reach the mass pockets is very difficult and for that, music plays an integral point. Today, reels are an indicator of success aur Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya aur Crew ki toh bahut reels bani hai. This adds to the popularity.”

 

Girish Johar agreed, “Kriti is on a very good trajectory right now. She has a certain draw that she is able to capitalize on. Music adds a lot to the box office prospects.”

 

Therefore, when it comes to music, performances or box office pull – everything is going in favour of Kriti Sanon in 2024. As she completes 10 years a month later in Bollywood, we asked the experts how she should plan her career from here on. Taran Adarsh stated, “You can’t really plan as such. You can only hope. Eventually, when a film comes out, it is not in the actors’ hands. There are so many factors at play.”

 

Girish Johar advised, “She should try and take more films on her shoulders. If she is able to carry a film at the box office and do the stories that she wants to tell, then she has a great career going forward.”

That’s because nothing succeeds like success. Aapki performance unnees-bees hogi toh bhi chalega if you have given a hit. In the case of Kriti, her performance in both films has been very good. She has evolved as an actress. With these two successes, it’s sone pe suhaga for her!”
