Karan Johar opens up about late Sunil Dutt being a perfectionist; says, “Dutt saab packed up after he got only 99 camels instead of 100”

Karan Johar, who hails from the family of film producers, is currently one of the biggest producers we know. The filmmaker has seen and grown up with films and film stars around him and recently he recalled an incident from the 70s, when his father Yash Johar was shooting with Sunil Dutt for their film Reshma Aur Shera, which featured Dutt as the leading man as well as the director. During the same, KJo confessed that the late veteran actor was not only strict but also a perfectionist.

In an interview with Film Companion, Karan Johar revealed about a scene from Reshma Aur Shera, which they were shooting in Rajasthan and required 100 camels. Recalling the incident, Karan Johar revealed that his father Yash Johar, who was said to be sleep deprived, could not complete the arrangements on time because of which Sunil Dutt refused to shoot. He said, “Dutt sahab told my father overnight that for Reshma Aur Shera, he wanted 100 camels. My father was a production controller so he was given these requirements. Overnight, he went to the nearby villages and got the camels. They weren’t 100.”

 

He went on to continue, “My father told him, ‘Dutt sahab, I am sorry. I couldn’t get you 100 camels. But I could get you 99.’ Dutt sahab looked at him and said ‘Pack up’ and walked off. He was serious because they weren’t 100 but 99 camels.”

 

Reshma Aur Shera also starred Waheeda Rehman, Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Rakhee, among others and the film received a lot of mass and critical appreciation. It even went on to win three National Awards in Best Actress, Best Music, and Best Cinematography categories.
