Kajol recalls how Saroj Khan called her and Saif Ali Khan ‘ill-mannered kids’ while shooting ‘Hoton Pe Bas’ for Yeh Dillagi

Kajol and Saif Ali Khan, who have come together for many films in the 90s, were seen together in the popular film Yeh Dillagi (1994), which also co-starred Akshay Kumar. Many of the tracks from the film continue to be chartbusters even today and the actress, who is currently promoting Lust Stories 2, recalled her experience of shooting the sexy number ‘Hoton Pe Bas’ from the film. The actress reminisced about how she was instructed to showcase emotions like ‘sharam’ (modesty) and be sexy at the same time.

For the unversed, ‘Hoton Pe Bas’ is a romantic duet number sung by the late Lata Mangeshkar and Kumar Sanu. The song was picturized on Kajol and Saif Ali Khan, where the actress was supposed to showcase her seductive side. Recalling the shooting experience with choreographer Saroj Khan, Kajol told Radio Nasha, “There are two things, the word sexy and the word ‘sharam’, I can’t relate with these emotions. When somebody tells me I have to bat my eyelids and act coy, I can’t comprehend it. I don’t understand the emotion, but if you give me a set of features to move in a particular way, I get that.”

 

Furthermore, opening up about the task-master side of Saroj Khan, Kajol reminisced about how she was pissed with her and Saif Ali Khan. She added, “You have to see how much Saroj ji wanted to slap us… On ‘Hoton Pe Bas’ Saroj ji wanted to hit us. Saif and I couldn’t stop laughing. She’d say, ‘You aren’t taking this seriously, you’re ill-mannered kids’.”

 

Yeh Dillagi is also known for songs like ‘Ole Ole’, ‘Dekho Zara Dekho’, ‘Naam Kya Hai’, among others. Produced by Yash Chopra, the film was directed by Naresh Malhotra and also featured Reema Lagoo, Deven Verma, among others in pivotal roles.

 

As for Lust Stories 2, the film is an anthology which brings together the works of four directors, R. Balki, Sujoy Ghosh, Amit Ravindernath Sharma, and Konkana Sen Sharma. The film also features an ensemble cast that includes Tamannaah Bhatia, Vijay Varma, Mrunal Thakur, Angad Bedi, Neena Gupta, Kajol, Kumud Mishra, Tillotama Shome, among others.
