Gulshan Devaiah reveals well-wishers told him to buy second-hand BMW for building image: “I know how perception works in this industry”

Actor Gulshan Devaiah, who recently garnered widespread acclaim for his role in the blockbuster film Kantara: Chapter 1, opened up about the pressures of maintaining a glamorous image in the film industry. In a candid interview with the Hindustan Times, Gulshan revealed how some well-wishers advised him to buy a luxury car, like a second-hand BMW or Mercedes, to enhance his image.

Explaining the advice, Gulshan said, "Once somebody told me to buy a big car, a second-hand BMW or Mercedes, ki thoda image banega (for the image)." He acknowledged the validity of this viewpoint, saying, "From their perspective, they are correct because I know how perception works in this industry." However, Gulshan firmly emphasized his commitment to authenticity, adding, "But you can't control that. I stay as authentic as I can. Unko please karne ke liye main nahin karoonga (I won't do anything to please others)."

 

In addition, Gulshan spoke about the importance of being his true self online. He expressed a desire to engage with others without pretence and to crack jokes just as naturally in virtual conversations as he would in person. Admitting to earlier missteps in his online communication, he said, "You say nonsense, then you realise, haan, ye toh bakwas tha. Ye toh nahin kehna chahiye tha (This was nonsense, I shouldn't have said that). But I am learning. Nobody is perfect."

 

Gulshan's recognition has grown steadily over the years, with many fans and critics calling him "underrated." He takes such labels positively, seeing them as compliments that indicate his consistent hard work is finally being appreciated.

 

Currently, Kantara: Chapter 1, directed and written by Rishab Shetty, is celebrating massive success. The film, set during Karnataka's historical Kadamba dynasty period, showcases Gulshan in a powerful role as King Kulashekara. Released in six languages, including Kannada and Hindi, the film has resonated with audiences nationwide and continues to perform strongly at the box office.
