The talented, dashing actor Sikandar Kher spoke exclusively to Bollywood Hungama on his birthday (October 31) about his recent web show Aarya Season 3 and a lot more.

What are your birthday plans?

 

I am relaxing and spending time with my mother (Kirron Kher) at home. Nothing else. It’s an easy day.

 

How is your mother doing?

 

My mother is doing good.

 

Could you share your childhood birthday memories?

 

I used to look forward to my birthday the whole year. My parents were kind enough to have a wonderful birthday bash for me. We used to have a pool party in Hotel Centaur and at times, it used to be in Holiday Inn. My friends from school would be invited and even they would look forward to it. Hence, it used to be very special.

 

As per reports, you were welcome on the sets of Aarya Season 3 with a note that referenced Al Pacino’s iconic lines from Scarface (1983), “The eyes, chico. They never lie.” Why was this particular line mentioned in your note?

 

So, director Ram Madhvani and his crew give a personalized message to all the actors and even the crew members. Pehle din pe bahut pyaara khat milta hai aur flowers bhi milte hai. It makes you feel welcome.

 

You had once said that it was difficult for you to get into the role of Daulat before the shoot of Season 2. Did you face the same difficulty before the filming of Season 3 as well?

 

Yes, it happened again. Finding Daulat again is always a challenge as a lot of stuff needs to be conveyed without any dialogue. Sometimes, you are left just standing! I had to always find that zone. Also, the shoot took place a year after Season 2 and hence, it’s always have been a challenge.

 

 

You and Sushmita Sen bond really well. We witnessed it during the BH OTT Awards as well. Is it right to say that the bond gets stronger with each passing season?

 

Yes. She and the whole crew are like family. And that happens when you spend so much time together. We have a long outdoor shoot in Rajasthan. We all sit together and eat our meals together and hence, the bond gets stronger.

 

For the first time, we saw that Daulat indeed has romantic feelings for Aarya. But this wasn’t prominently shown in Seasons 1 and 2…

 

That’s right but it was there in Season 1 as well. It was also present in the brief that I got from Ram Madhvani when I came on board. Daulat is the kind of guy who loves her and it’s probably beyond anything that he has experienced. It is inexplicable. That’s how love is. Aur pyaar mein sabke lag bhi jaate hai! Toh uss bechare ki lagi padi hai iss maamle mein.

 

Daulat has a huge following among the audience. However, many complained that he had limited screen time in Season 2. The same happened in Season 3 as well. Your thoughts?

 

I have been working for many years and I don’t think about stuff like screen time. It all depends on the decision of the storytellers and the editors and what they find important for the entire show. It’s not in the hands of the actors. Main Aarya ka role toh kar nahin raha hoon ki lamba screen time milega (laughs). But that’s how it is. Kuch log ka screen time zyada hota hai, kuch log ka kam hota hai. People should like it and that’s paramount and only then the characters will connect. Nevertheless, it’s nice to know that people miss Daulat, and people want to see more of him. That’s always very flattering.

 

Is Season 4 in the offing?

 

Only Disney+ Hotstar can answer. If I am told Season 4 is happening, we’ll be very happy as we’ll get a chance to work with Ram Madhvani and his team. It’s always a pleasure to work with them.

 

In an interview last year, you desired to become a father…

 

My mother really wants me to have children, more than anything else. But there’s no concrete plan. But yeah, it’s nice to have a family and companionship. As you keep growing older and older, who wouldn’t want to be surrounded by people whom you love?

 

In a way, you and Salman Khan are the most eligible bachelors in the industry!

 

Kya baat bol di. Lekin yeh baat kisi ko bahar bolna mat (laughs)!

 

You are a part of Dev Patel’s directorial debut Monkey Man. We haven’t heard about it for a while. What’s the latest update?

 

Only the makers can comment. I dubbed for it last month. When the time is right, I am sure they’ll call me and ask me to promote.

 

 

You worked in Citadel. It must have felt special collaborating with Raj and DK, right?

 

Indeed. I wanted to work with them for a while. They make such amazing stuff. Working with them was great fun. We had a great outdoor shoot in Serbia. I made a lot of friends. Hence, I felt a little sad when the shoot ended.

 

How was it working with Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu?

 

I have known Varun since we were kids. He’s like a brother. He’s very sweet and easy to work with. I met Samantha for the first time during Citadel. I had a few scenes with her. She’s a great performer. She’s also a strong woman and very inspirational for many people.

 

You had a great role in Sooryavanshi (2021). Can we expect you to be a part of Singham Again or any future film of the cop universe?

 

I don’t think so. Koi phone nahin aaya hai mujhe. Yeh baat Rohit Shetty ko bata do!

 

Your chase sequence in Sooryavanshi was much loved, especially how Akshay Kumar gives you a tapli before grabbing you. Was that tapli pre-planned?

 

It was impromptu. Akshay told me ‘Main tujhe tapli maarunga. Fir main tujhe uthaonga’. I was like ‘Theek hai. Jo aapki marzi. Main apna reaction de dunga’!

 

Lastly, on your birthday, what do you wish for?

 

I wish my mother is healthy and all my loved ones are happy and at peace. I have a lot of gratitude to the universe for whatever it has given me. I am a work-in-progress actor and I hope I keep evolving as a performer as a person.
