Roy Kapur Films’ Matka King, led by Vijay Varma, has emerged as a major OTT success story, climbing to the No.1 spot in both India and the UAE within just four days of its premiere on Prime Video on April 17. The eight-episode crime drama has also secured the 8th position in Prime Video’s Global Top 10, making it the only Indian series currently trending worldwide, as per FlixPatrol.
Created and directed by Nagraj Popatrao Manjule and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, the series has struck a chord with audiences across multiple territories. Apart from India and the UAE, Matka King is trending in the Top 10 across countries including Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the United Kingdom, highlighting its widespread global appeal.
At the heart of the series is Vijay Varma’s performance as Brij Bhatti, a character navigating the high-stakes and dangerous world of matka gambling in 1960s and 70s Bombay. The show’s gritty storytelling and immersive setting have contributed significantly to its rapid rise in popularity.
