EXCLUSIVE: Manoj Bajpayee calls Jugnuma “one of the top-most films” of his career; credits Anurag Kashyap for its title

Ahead of the release of his indie drama Jugnuma, Manoj Bajpayee spoke exclusively with Bollywood Hungama’s Lights, Camera, Podcast, offering insights into his character, the film’s symbolic title, and why he considers it a milestone in his career.

The film, produced by Anurag Kashyap, hit the theatres on September 12. In the conversation, Bajpayee revealed that the title of the film was suggested by Kashyap himself. “It is talking about the fireflies. It is talking about the fairy tales. That is why the name Jugnuma because it's just a symbolic thing about Jugnu, a firefly. Fireflies are called Jugnu, so it's a symbolic name. I love the name. Actually, it was given to it by Anurag Kashyap,” he said.

 

Explaining the core conflict of his character, Bajpayee shared, “He is trying to detach himself from everything that he has. But in the process, he's feeling more attached. So that struggle of attachment and detachment you will see in this film, and mainly in my performance.”

 

 

Calling the project a “family film,” the actor asserted his conviction in the storytelling and his work: “Take it in writing when I say, this is one of the top-most films of my career. I mean it very seriously.”
