EXCLUSIVE: Daldal director Suresh Triveni on why he resisted OTT and what finally pulled him in: "I'm an impatient viewer"

Director Suresh Triveni, in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, admitted that stepping into the OTT space was not an easy decision. “I was very reluctant to make a series. I’m inherently lazy,” he said candidly. “There’s just so much work.” He initially pushed for a feature film instead. “I kept saying, ‘Let’s make a film.’”

What eventually convinced him was the depth of the material and the writers’ room process. “Once the writers’ room happened, you’re trapped,” he said. “You either complain about cliffhangers, or you embrace what you love about the genre.”

 

Triveni also stressed brevity. “I’m an impatient viewer. I can’t watch things beyond 45 minutes. Duration control was very important for us.”

 

That approach shaped Daldal’s tight pacing and immersive storytelling. By marrying cinematic sensibilities with episodic structure, Triveni found a balance that respected both the audience’s time and intelligence.

 

In the end, Daldal became not just Triveni’s OTT debut—but a testament to how the medium can deepen storytelling when approached with discipline and conviction.
