Diwali is around the corner and it’s that season of the year when Bollywood box office prepares for a mighty battle between a slew of new Diwali releases.

Diwali 2022: Bollywood movie releases that clashed during Diwali in the past years

This year, two Bollywood films starring big names are going head-to-head this Diwali, with Akshay Kumar’s mythological action-adventure Ram Setu and Sidharth Malhotra-Ajay Devgn’s fantasy comedy Thank God both hitting theaters on October 25.

While the films are yet to release and face-off at the box office, let’s look back at such films that clashed during a Diwali release in the past years:

1) Jab Tak Hai Jaan Vs Son of Sardaar

Yash Chopra directed Jab Tak Hai Jaan starred Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in lead roles while the action-romance comedy Son Of Sardaar starrer Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles.

The films released on 13 November 2012. Both films have their own set of fans as one was a romantic drama while the other was a comedy.

2) Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Vs Shivaay

Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer romance drama Ae Dil Hai Mushkil released on 28 October 2016, the same day as Ajay Devgn's action-adventure film Shivaay.

3) Om Shanti Om Vs Saawariya

Om Shanti Om and Saawariya were debut films of Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor respectively. Deepika Padukone starred opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Farah Khan’s romance drama while Ranbir Kapoor was paired opposite Sonam Kapoor in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s romance musical.

While Om Shanti Om turned out to be highest grossing film of the year 2007 at the box office, Saawariya managed a meagre win commercially.

4) Golmaal 3 and Action Replayy

While Ajay Devgn’s mutlti-starrer Golmaal Again, was a comedy, Akshay Kumar's Action Replayy was a science-fiction rom-comedy, heavily inspired by The Hollywood classic Back to the Future. The films released on November 5, 2010. Ajay Devgn’s comedy earned well at the box office where as Akshay Kumar’s sci-fi comedy struggled to impress fans.
