Bollywood Hungama OTT India Fest Day 2 EXCLUSIVE: Vedang Raina auditioned for Archie's role in The Archies; recalls giving “nerve-wracking” audition to Zoya Akhtar

The makers of the Netflix's film The Archies released the film’s first song 'Sunoh,' featuring Dot (Aditi), Agastya Nanda, Khushi Kapoor, Mihir Ahuja, Suhana Khan, Vedang Raina and Yuvraj Menda, at Bollywood Hungama OTT India Fest Day 2 on October 19, 2023. At the exclusive launch, Vedang Raina revealed that he auditioned for the lead character Archie, which Agastya Nanda essays.

It all started when he was asked to give a sneak peek into his casting process. Raina asserted, “The audition process was super long and rigorous. I gave my first audition in December of 2020. It caught my eye because of the brand, [The] Archie's and Zoya [Akhtar]. I was in the last year of my undergraduate and thought if this worked out, I wouldn't have to stress about my job placements and postgrad.”

 

He further added, “I gave my audition. It was a self-test. It was for Archie’s role actually. And I didn't hear back for months. Then, four or five months later, I got a callback. I went through multiple self-tests and eventually got another call back for Reggie's character. I went to the office and Zoya took my audition. It was nerve-wracking, but she was nice and sweet. That's when I got the role.”

 

 

As the conversation progressed further, Vedang also explained the process of self-testing. Besides this, he also gave a shout-out to the art department of the upcoming film for their “amazing job with the level of detailing in the sets.”

 

For the unversed, the live-action musical transports viewers on an enchanting journey back to the captivating era of the 1960s, set in the fictional hill town of Riverdale. The film is produced by Netflix India, Tiger Baby, Archie Comics and Graphic India. The Archies will be released worldwide on Netflix only on December 7, 2023.
