A show with an interesting concept has hit our screens and surprisingly doing quite well, making its place in the hearts of the audience. Anandi Baa Aur Emily showcases the fun banter between a mother in law and daughter in law, which may not be new, but it has a twist! What has created excitement is the clash of two different cultures as one tries to understand the other despite belonging to different backgrounds.

Kanchan Gupta, who is playing the traditional mother-in-law, wants to keep up her quintessential Gujarati values when she gets the shocker! Her son, who dreams of moving to America, marries a foreigner played by Jazzy Ballerini. Speaking about their real and reel life bond, Kanchan received quite the surprise when she saw Jazzy being so involved in Indian culture. She said, “The country we belong to there are already diverse cultures, beliefs, religion, so in this field we do interact with people from different cultures, places, behaviors, religion etc. I am amused that Jazzy has such understanding towards Indian culture and she also shares her experiences as well.”

 

She went on to add, “In some of the scenes I use to talk to her loudly so she used to say why are you shouting to which the makers used to make her understand that the Indian mother-in-law is portrayed in a certain way onscreen in some shows which is usually not true in reality. So yes, she has understood and has maintained a balance between her and our culture. In real life, we share a very good equation.”

 

Set in Gondal, the plot revolves Sanghani family who are now reeling from the shock of Mishkat Varma aka Aarav’s marriage with Emily. The show airs on Star Plus at 6:30pm from Monday to Friday.
