BO update: Shamitabh starts on a dismal note

This year, the month of January was a rather low scoring month considering the overall collections of releases to that of previous years. The trend of slow starters seems to be continuing in February too with the latest release SHAMITABH starting off on a dull note.

BO update: Shamitabh starts on a dismal note

Directed by R. Balki who has given us films like Cheeni Kum and Paa earlier, expectations were high for SHAMITABH featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Dhanush and debutant Akshara Haasan. However, reports suggest that the film has opened to a dismal start with just 15% occupancy rate. Adding to this, the mixed reviews the film has received has made the task of posting decent collections a challenging affair.

But on a lighter note, SHAMITABH that faces almost no competition from the previous releases is expected to pick up over evening and night shows. However, the film that caters to a rather niche pseudo-intellectual audience will have to rely heavily on good word of mouth.
