Box Office: Understanding the Economics of Fitoor

 

It has been little over a week now that the Aditya Roy Kapur, Katrina Kaif and Tabu starrer Fitoor released. However, the film which was an adaptation of the Charles Dickens' novel Great Box Office: Understanding the Economics of Fitoor

 

Expectations failed to live up to the audiences expectations (no pun intended). In fact, Fitoor that was produced by UTV on a budget of Rs. 70 crores (Cost of production Rs. 55 cr + Print

 

and Publicity Rs. 15 cr) has managed to recover just Rs. 18.61 cr at the box office since its release.

 

In this box office analysis, we take a look at the overall losses the makers of Fitoor have incurred. Not surprisingly, the film despite the buzz surrounding it has turned disastrous for the

 

makers recovering a total of just Rs. 30.64 cr, which includes approximately Rs. 8.37 cr (domestic distributors share), Rs. 8.27 cr (overseas distributors share) and Rs. 9 cr from Home Video,

 

Music, Digital & Ancillary Rights. Though the satellite rights of the film are yet to be sold, we estimate UTV will sell the same (coupled with another big ticket release) for an estimated Rs. 5

 

cr.

 

However, looking at the figures UTV have made a loss of Rs. 39.36 cr with Fitoor with a negative rate on Return on Investment of 56.23%.
