Will it touch the 100 cr mark?

 

On Friday, on the day of its release, the one question that the industry people kept asking constantly was, will DON 2 make it to the 100 cr club? Will it Will it touch the 100 cr mark?

 

feature prominently amongst the biggest grossers of this year? The 100 cr club is the barometer of super success today and the mathematicians in the industry

 

were busy analyzing the estimated business of DON 2 after the preview screenings concluded on Thursday night. 2011 has been a landmark year for the Hindi

 

film industry, with as many as four films, READY, BODYGUARD, SINGHAM and RA.ONE, crossing the 100 cr mark. DON 2 is expected to be the latest

 

entrant…

 

DON 2 has had the widest release ever for a Hindi film [3105 screens in India alone] and the per day capacity is humungous as well [approx Rs 30 cr +], hence

 

the weekend figure of Rs 48.83 cr nett is lower than expected. It should've been in 55 cr to 60 cr range in its opening weekend. The screen count + the

 

record number of shows every single day + the inflated ticket rates at several screens + the Christmas weekend… DON 2 had to deliver colossal numbers. The

 

weekend figure may seem impressive, but when you look at the factors in its favor, it could've fetched bigger numbers.

 

I'd like to add, the contribution to this total is largely from multiplexes, while single screens [of heartland specially] haven't contributed much. The

 

business at urban centres has been fantastic and it's this business that should help DON 2 attain the magical figure of 100 crores. But, of course,

 

everything depends on how it fares in its second weekend.

Given its current performance at the box-office, especially in the Overseas territory, Reliance is expected to recover the investment and make good profits

 

in the final tally.
