It was the most awaited film. An ensemble cast, the exotic locations, the international feel, the hype… BOOM was truly looked forward to by one and all. But the bubble has burst. Those who've seen Kaizad Gustad's labour of love [?] feel it belies the expectations. The film was panned by the critics and shunned by the audiences.

 

At the box-office, the film did start on an encouraging note at several places, but the subsequent fall in collections did not come as a shock. Believe it or not, at some theatres, the collections dropped by 50% as days progressed.

What went wrong? The answer is simple: The downright vulgarity the film projected was too difficult to digest. Sex sells, yes, but an overdose of it, minus a taut script, just cannot be accepted. However, the only advantage is its price at which the distributors took the delivery.

"The film hardly confirms to the expectations. The audiences are thoroughly disappointed and rightly so. The story makes no sense. Moreover, it is a crude film that cannot be enjoyed with your family. In fact, the family audiences have been avoiding this film because of its content.

 

"The fall in the collections at my theatre is alarming. Fortunately, we took the wise decision of booking it for only one week."

"The film just doesn't gel with the Indian culture. Frankly, such films should not be made, irrespective of the age we live in. The film generated a good opening at Gaiety theatre [Bandra] due to the controversies and the hype preceding its release. But the collections have dropped sharply after the first three days.

 

"The family audiences are avoiding the film. I have also seen sections of educated people walking out of the theatre mid-way. Even a weak film like KYON? was better than BOOM."
