Salim Khan turns down Padma Shri award

Well known screen writer and lyricist Salim Khan who recently was conferred with the Padma Shri, has apparently turned down the national honour that is India's fourth highest civilian award. The reason being stated by the veteran is that he deserves more than just a Padma Shri for his imminent contribution to the field of Indian cinema.

In a statement issued by Khan he is quoted as saying, that though he was prepared to accept the Padma Bhushan, the Padma Shri he has been awarded is just not enough. If that wasn't all, adding salt to his injury was the fact that his onetime partner Javed Akhtar received two Padma honours including the Padma Bhushan.
