Hrithik first and only choice for Lakshya:
Excel Entertainment have clarified that Hrithik Roshan was always the first and only choice for their film LAKSHYA. The director (Farhan Akhtar) and producer (Ritesh Sidhwani) are currently in U.S.A. and have denied rumours that Hrithik ousted Vivek Oberoi from LAKSHYA by reducing his remuneration. "It's absolutely bizarre," Farhan's sister Zoya Akhtar tells me (speaking on behalf of Excel Entertainment), "Farhan always wanted Hrithik for the role in LAKSHYA and he signed him as soon as the script was ready. Hrithik fitted the role to the T. We did not approach Vivek Oberoi for this film at any stage." Continuing further, Zoya states, "At first we decided to avoid issuing any statements to clarify our stand. But it was putting Hrithik in a negative light and we decided to set the record straight." Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta, LAKSHYA will roll on April 15 and should be over by October 2003. Meanwhile, Zoya's film will roll in January 2004 and will be produced by Excel Entertainment. "My script is ready," Zoya informs, "I've even thought of the cast, but we haven't signed anyone yet." But why the delay in starting the film? "That's because I am involved as the E.P. (executive producer) in Farhan's film. It's better to concentrate on one film at a time."
