Bollywood Hungama recently reported that Bollywood is facing an ageing star problem when it comes to its male actors. According to Ormax Media’s analysis of its Stars India Loves data, the average age of the Top 5 male Hindi film stars has gone up from 47 years in 2019 to 54 years in 2025. In this story, we’ll focus on what the report says about the top 5 actresses. The report notes that “The Top 5 average at 37 years in 2025, compared to 33 years in 2019”.

Interestingly, Kriti Sanon stands out as one of the few newer names to break into the top tier. According to Ormax Media’s Stars India Loves data for 2025, Kriti is part of the Top 5 female Hindi film stars, alongside Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Shraddha Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. In 2019, the list included Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shraddha Kapoor. Four names remain common across both years. Amid this limited churn, Kriti’s entry into the Top 5 becomes an important marker.
Ormax’s report also notes that while the female star ecosystem has an ageing issue too, it is less severe than the male side. The brighter side, it says, is the emergence of younger female stars such as Kriti Sanon, Kiara Advani and Rashmika Mandanna, along with fresher names like Aneet Padda who could rise further with time.
Kriti Sanon debuted in Hindi with the super-hit Heropanti (2014). After a few underperformers, she was seen in an author-backed role in Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017). In the lockdown, she stunned the audiences with Mimi (2021) and her performance even earned her a National Award.
2022 and 2023 were challenging years for her as Bachchhan Paandey, Shehzada, Adipurush and Ganapath were unsuccessful at the box office while Bhediya was an average grosser. But 2024 turned the tide for her. Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya was a huge hit and her portrayal of a robot was subtle yet highly effective and entertaining. Crew was a runaway success while her Netflix film, Do Patti, got considerable viewership.

In 2025, she was seen in a challenging role in Tere Ishk Mein, and it emerged as a Rs. 100 crores grosser. She's now awaiting the release of Cocktail 2, which has already raised expectations due to its songs, casting and youthful flavour.
Even during her low phase, Kriti Sanon’s popularity never dipped. It was evident to everyone, from the industry to trade to the audiences, that it was the films and not Kriti which were failing. Her rise reflects something Bollywood badly needs: a fresh face with mainstream recall, glamour, acting credibility and audience connection. Over the years, Kriti has managed to balance commercial entertainers, performance-driven parts and strong public visibility. That combination has helped her move beyond being seen only as a promising actor and into the space of a genuine young star.
Kriti Sanon’s presence in the Top 5 is therefore not just a personal achievement. It is also a positive sign for the industry. Bollywood needs newer stars who can headline films, build fan bases and keep genres alive. In a star system where the top layer has been slow to change, Kriti Sanon’s rise is proof that new stardom is still possible – provided the industry backs it consistently.
