PVR INOX launched its specially curated David Dhawan Film Festival with a star-studded celebration in Mumbai, honouring the filmmaker’s long-standing contribution to mainstream Hindi cinema. The event, held at Maison INOX, Jio World Plaza, brought together several members of the film fraternity, media personalities, and cinema enthusiasts to celebrate the legacy of David Dhawan, known for directing some of Bollywood’s most successful commercial entertainers.
Over a career spanning more than four decades, David Dhawan has delivered several popular comedy films including Raja Babu, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Partner, Aankhen, and Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, shaping the landscape of mass-market comedy entertainers in Hindi cinema. One of the highlights of the evening was a fireside conversation between David Dhawan and actor Varun Dhawan, where the two reflected on filmmaking, family, comedy, and the filmmaker’s cinematic journey. During the interaction, Varun asked his father whether there is a retirement age in cinema, to which David Dhawan responded, “Not really… jab tak hai dum.”
Speaking further about his passion for filmmaking, the veteran director added, “You never really get tired of making films. After making so many films, I still feel I can make four more.” Varun Dhawan also praised the filmmaker during the conversation, saying, “He is the most successful director I have ever worked with. And I will ever work with.”
The event saw the presence of several prominent names from the entertainment industry, including Salman Khan, Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor, Chunky Panday, Pooja Hegde, Anu Malik, Ramesh Taurani, and Sajid Nadiadwala, among others. Niharika Bijli, Lead Strategist at PVR INOX Ltd., said, "It is an honour for us at PVR INOX to celebrate the incredible legacy of David sir through this special film festival. Watching David sir in conversation with Varun Dhawan at our cinema was incredibly special. The David Dhawan Film Festival began on May 22, 2026, and is currently being showcased across 40 premium PVR INOX properties in 25 cities. The festival features a curated lineup of some of the filmmaker’s most popular entertainers, allowing audiences to revisit his comedy classics on the big screen once again.
The celebration also comes amid growing anticipation for David Dhawan’s upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which marks his return to directing another mainstream entertainer.
