The David Dhawan Film Festival is going on in PVR and to celebrate the legendary director, the multiplex chain organized a fireside chat. It involved David Dhawan talking about his life and films with his son, Varun Dhawan. Incidentally, both are also gearing up for the release of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. The comic caper will arrive in cinemas on June 5. The event began with a wonderful speech by Niharika Bijli of PVR.
Niharika said, “A lot can be said about David ji, the king of comedy, and his contributions to Hindi cinema. Making 45 films is a feat. You have made us laugh, sing and cry, and you have also given us iconic movie dialogues and performances. Your stories make us think and feel about our relationships with our friends, family and society at large. However, everyone would agree that the biggest achievement of your films is that they are stories that bring us together. These are stories that families can watch together. It’s becoming rare today.”
Niharika added, “From the little time I’ve spent with you, I can say that you wear your heart, emotions, humour and much more on your sleeves. From what I’ve heard from those who work with you, you bring all that passion, knowledge and excitement to your work every day. Even after all these years, you are still just as committed to your craft. As Varun said in an interview, when we watch your films, they seem easy and light, but they are the hardest ones to make. That’s a full testament to your conviction as a storyteller and love of cinema.”
Varun was quite touched by her words. He said, “Thank you, Niharika. It’s very kind of you. For those who don’t know, Niharika is actually our neighbour. We live in the same building. Basically, jab inko cheeni kam pad jaati hai, yeh humse poochti hai. Hum (cheeni) de dete hai. Lekin jab humein screen kam pad jaate hai aur inse poochte hai, toh nahin dete hai!”
Varun Dhawan then clarified, “This was a joke to start off and to warm up.”
