The trailer of Main Vaapas Aaunga has been released, with filmmaker Imtiaz Ali returning to the world of sweeping romance. Set against the backdrop of India's Partition, the film stars Diljit Dosanjh as a man haunted by memories of a childhood love torn apart by borders, with Vedang Raina playing the younger version of the same character. Raina has drawn early attention for his soulful rendition of ‘Maskara’, a song from the film that has been well received by audiences online.
At the recent trailer launch, AR Rahman spoke about Vedang Raina's singing. Calling him a "real singer", the composer said, "He has a beautiful voice." The remark points to Vedang's growing reputation as a performer who can hold his own behind the mic in addition to his work as an actor. Given the response ‘Maskara’ has received online, audiences are likely to want to hear more of him.
Vedang had earlier spoken about how much lending his voice to ‘Maskara’ meant to him. Main Vaapas Aaunga is a story of love, longing, and belonging, and also stars Sharvari and Naseeruddin Shah in pivotal roles. The film marks another collaboration between Imtiaz Ali, AR Rahman, and lyricist Irshad Kamil, who have previously worked together on Rockstar, Tamasha, and Amar Singh Chamkila.
Directed by Imtiaz Ali, Main Vaapas Aaunga releases in theatres on June 12.
