Namashi Chakraborty is gearing up for a significant day in his career as two of his films are set to reach audiences on May 15, 2026. While his upcoming film Aakhri Sawal is all set for a nationwide theatrical release, another one of his projects, The Bengal Files, is finally releasing in West Bengal after months of controversy and anticipation.

The Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri directorial had originally released across India on September 5, 2025, but did not hit theatres in West Bengal at the time. Following recent political developments in the state and the BJP’s victory in the elections, the film is now set to release in Bengal cinemas this Friday.

Speaking to NDTV during promotions for Aakhri Sawal, Namashi reflected on the film’s delayed release in the state and recalled the difficulties the team allegedly faced during promotional events last year.

“I am very glad that the film is finally releasing. I remember when we had gone (to West Bengal) for the trailer launch (of The Bengal Files) in August, we were not even allowed to screen the trailer. We were almost shooed out of the event. I realised that democracy was at a cusp in West Bengal at that point of time,” said the actor.

Namashi further expressed hope that audiences across communities would watch the film now that it is finally releasing in the state. “But I am so glad that now the film is finally coming out and I hope people in West Bengal, not just Hindus but every person living in Bengal, watches the film because the truth doesn't have a religion, the truth is just the truth,” he added.

The actor’s comments come at a time when The Bengal Files has once again become a topic of discussion online ahead of its release in West Bengal. The film, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, had previously sparked debates and conversations following its release in other parts of the country.

Apart from The Bengal Files, Namashi is also focused on the release of Aakhri Sawal, which features Sanjay Dutt in the lead role alongside Amit Sadh and Neetu Chandra. The film is scheduled to release nationwide on May 15.
