The upcoming film Varanasi, directed by S. S. Rajamouli, is steadily emerging as one of the most anticipated Indian cinematic spectacles, with its scale and ambition drawing global attention. Starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film has been creating significant buzz ever since its first glimpse was unveiled at the Trailer Festival held at Le Grand Rex, Europe’s largest iconic screen. The preview reportedly received an enthusiastic response, with audiences reacting with applause, cheers, and whistles.

The film recently made its presence felt on an international platform at the Comic Con Experience Mexico 2026, where producer S. S. Karthikeya shared insights into the making of the film’s elaborate sets, particularly the recreation of Varanasi’s famed ghats.
Speaking at the event, Karthikeya elaborated on the scale of the production and the efforts invested in bringing Rajamouli’s vision to life. "The story begins, and revolves, and ends in Varanasi. It’s also called the spiritual capital of India and its one of the oldest city that was built and still inhabited and obviously our director SS Rajamouli had a vision of some breath-taking sequences in the Ghats of Varanasi, which obviously practically we couldn't have possibly executed there, as the producer our responsibility is to make that happen. We sent out our production design team to Varanasi to get all the possible dyes, measurements, picture references and all of that, and yes to get his vision come true we built the Varanasi Ghats brick by brick to ensure his vision comes true."
The scale of the film is further reflected in its character reveals, which have already sparked widespread excitement online. Mahesh Babu’s intense look as Rudhra, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s striking appearance as Kumbha, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s commanding avatar as Mandakini have all contributed to the growing anticipation.
With its blend of масштаб storytelling, detailed world-building, and high production values, Varanasi is shaping up to be a landmark project in Indian cinema. As expectations continue to rise, the film is slated for a grand theatrical release on April 7, 2027, positioning itself as a major event film on the global stage.
