Veteran trade analyst Taran Adarsh has weighed in on the widespread conversation surrounding Dhurandhar The Revenge, describing the scale of its audience response as something he has witnessed only once before in his lifetime during the release of Sholay. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, the trade analyst said the level of excitement around the film reminds him of rare cinematic moments that arrive only once in decades.

“I believe this is a film that probably comes after decades. Very few such films are made. And when such films are made, we should celebrate them,” he said.
Recalling his personal memories of watching Sholay as a child, Adarsh spoke about experiencing a similar audience frenzy again in 2026. “I am very thankful to the Almighty that I have seen this phase once again with another film. I am talking about 1975 when Sholay was released. I was 10 years old then. My father’s office was at Grant Road, and Minerva Theatre was right where the film was released and ran continuously for five years on a 70 mm screen. I watched the film countless times. The craze that I saw then, I am seeing again in 2026.”
Adarsh added that he considers himself fortunate to have witnessed two such landmark theatrical moments during his lifetime. “That is why I am very thankful that I have seen two such films in my lifetime. I was not born when Mughal-e-Azam was released, so I cannot speak about that, but that also had tremendous hype. My point is that a film like Dhurandhar should be celebrated.”
According to him, the film represents a significant moment for the wider Indian film ecosystem and signals new creative possibilities for filmmakers. “It’s a pathbreaking film. It opens new doors for filmmakers and for everyone that we can make such films and audiences will come to watch them, provided we make good films.”
Adarsh also stressed that he sees the film not just as a success for Hindi cinema but as part of a larger achievement for the Indian film industry as a whole. “I think Dhurandhar is one of the best films to come out of the Indian film industry. I am not saying Bollywood. I am saying the Indian film industry because all industries come under one umbrella.”
He further pointed to the film’s performance beyond domestic markets as another indicator of its scale. “When you see the collections in international markets also, you will see that this film is truly planting its flag there.”
The film continues to generate strong reactions across audiences and industry observers alike, with conversations ranging from praise for Ranveer Singh’s performance to debate around Aditya Dhar’s storytelling choices. Amid the varied responses, Adarsh’s comparison with Sholay places Dhurandhar The Revenge within a rare category of theatrical events that extend beyond routine box office success.
