Actor Girija Oak has been nominated in the Best Actress category at the Critics’ Choice Awards India 2026 for her performance in The Perfect Family. The nomination highlights her work in the film and adds to her presence across both Marathi and Hindi projects.
Organised by the Film Critics Guild in partnership with WPP Motion Entertainment, the Critics’ Choice Awards recognise achievements across films, web series, documentaries, and short films. Winners are decided by a jury of film critics from across the country. Reflecting on the nomination and her experience working on the film, Oak spoke about the challenges actors from regional industries sometimes face in mainstream Hindi cinema. She said, “Coming from a regional space, I’ve often felt that a wider Hindi lens tends to flatten our identities, sometimes even turning them into caricatures just to make them more palatable.”
She added that navigating such perceptions has been an ongoing process. “I’ve always tried to negotiate that, because authenticity matters. What felt refreshing with The Perfect Family was that the focus wasn’t on my language or accent, but simply on telling the story truthfully.” The film, according to Oak, allowed her to explore a character without the pressure of fitting into predefined stereotypes. “It gave me the space to step into a different cultural setting while staying honest to the character,” she noted.
Known for balancing work across industries, Oak has often moved between Marathi and Hindi content, taking on roles in films, television, and digital projects.Her nomination this year reflects continued recognition for performances that focus on character-driven storytelling, even as conversations around representation and authenticity in Indian cinema remain ongoing.
