If you are a regular Instagram user, there’s no way you wouldn’t have come across Khushaal Pawaar's content. He has won the hearts of millions with his Reels where he plays different kinds of antic characters with finesse. The way he depicts the aam aadmi is relatable and he’s a rare content creator who makes clean videos. Hence, people of all age groups are his followers. Recently, Khushaal Pawaar took a leap as he directed a short film, Khushiyan Swati Ki, Koshish Raju Ki. Co-starring Rispa Panda and Sameeksha Takke, it features Khushaal as lead actor, writer, music composer, lyricist, and singer! In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Khushaal Pawaar spoke about his short film and a lot more.

What feedback have you got for Khushiyan Swati Ki, Koshish Raju Ki?
It’s been amazing. The comments under the video are very lovely and appreciative. This has motivated me to make more films so that I continue to get such love from people. It also makes me feel responsible. I hope I am able to deliver more such content, which is clean, can be enjoyed by the whole family and which puts a smile on the faces of the people.
The title of the film is unique. Please tell us how you finalized it…
We didn’t have a title for our film when we started making it. I wanted a Bollywood-ish title like Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge etc. After the edit was done, I realized that if I keep the name of the characters in the title, it’ll make sense. And one day, randomly, I chanced upon this title.
You have not just acted but also acted, directed, composed the music and also sung the song. What made you wear so many hats?
I love to compose, set the tunes and write lyrics. Mere mein khujli hai! There was a situation for songs and hence, I started writing and composing. It happened organically. It was also challenging as I don’t know technical stuff, like how to program. If you ask me mera gaana kaunse scale mein hai, woh mujhe nahin malum hai exactly (smiles). Thankfully, the team we hired were kind enough to help me deliver what was there in my mind.
Interestingly, your film is edited by Rohit Makwana, who also edited Saiyaara (2025). How did he come on board?
So, I tried to quicken the process and consequently, the opposite happened! I shot the film in 3 days and then I gave the footage to an editor. I wanted an idea as to how the film looks. However, the editor took a long time. Then I called one of my director-friends and asked him if there was any editor. He gave me Rohit’s number. I didn’t know at that time that he had edited Saiyaara. He told me that he had seen my content on Instagram and came on board. Sadly, he fell sick. He had to be hospitalized and the post-production process took 4 months. A lot of back-and-forth happened. He admitted that due to the delay, I was free to get the edit done from some other editor. But I replied, ‘Nahin. Ab toh aap hi karoge’! He cautioned that I would have to wait and I was okay with it.

The climax of your film has been shot on a railway station and inside the train. Was that a challenge? Also, was it a guerrilla shoot?
Yes. Bhaag daud ke aur chupke se shoot kiya humne (laughs). We used to carry a bag. As soon as the shoot was done, we would hide the camera in the bag! We had a person in the unit. He used to cover the camera in such a way that no one would get a whiff that we were shooting.
A beautiful part about this film and your video is the way you depict the common man as no one else does. Like Raju in the film doesn’t know the meaning of CV. We might assume that everyone would know the full form of it, but that’s not how it is. I see the same in your videos as well. Do you think this factor has really helped you in amassing a large number of followers?
I don’t know, honestly. But in my real life, when I heard about a CV for the first time, even I didn’t understand what it meant. Then my friends told me that it means a document in which I need to list my education qualifications and work experience. And my reply was, ‘I am anyway going for the interview…they can ask me about it, right?’!
So, I guess this happens a lot. Similarly, someone might casually use a very heavy English word and the person with him would be scratching his or her head, wondering its meaning.
