Singer Asees Kaur’s song ‘Raataan Lambiyan’ from Shershaah was all over social media and the radio around the release and post the release of the film. The song mesmerized people across all age groups. Asees, recently, won the Best Playback singer (Female) at IIFA Awards 2022 for ‘Raataan Lambiyan’. The song was composed and penned by Tanishq Bagchi and picturized on Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani.
Post her win at the IIFA, an elated Asees spoke to Bollywood Hungama about the massive reception the song got, especially through social media. There were hundreds of reels that were made on the song. “It feels amazing to listen to your own voice again and again and be watching people making videos. It takes a lot of effort and time to make a video on any song. “People have really loved it. That's why they like made a number of reels on the song,” she said.
Things have been looking great for Asees post-Shershaah as she is working on several film and non-film songs. “I really pick and choose when I'm singing any non-film song, because that will be my representation. And I will be the bearer of the song. So, I really take care of that. Like I should relate to lyrics, I should feel the melody then only I sing. Yes, I've been a little choosy in the past few months,” she says talking about how things have changed for her.
While she also carefully picks her film songs, but not as careful as she is with the non-film songs. “A non-film song is another game. It is their own story or there's no script or a character to cater to. I think non-film songs, have another lookout, and film songs have another lookout,” she explained.
When asked if the popularity of songs on Instagram reels is an important parameter, the singer said, “Of course. I think this has become a parameter. In today's world, if your song is working on reel, it's a hit song. But I really feel that a song is a hit song if it touches people's hearts. And if people could relate to it, whether it's the melody or the lyrics that they relate to or the way it is sung. could relate to the lyrics or the way how it's sung. For me, a song is a hit song only if people relate to it and they come to me and say I love your song.”
“For example, a song may not be very viral on reels like my song,‘Intezaar’. When I went to Dubai, a lot of people came to me and said they loved the song ‘Intezaar’. And so that's how I feel that song is a hit song if people could come to me and tell me,” she added.
Asees is currently gearing up for the release of her songs in the film Khuda Haafiz 2. “I have nice songs in Khuda Haafiz 2. It has two of my songs. One is with the Mithoon and one is with Vishal Mishra. Both the songs are so soulful, and they will touch your heart. And I'm working on some non-film music where I am trying new things,” she shared.
