Shah Rukh Khan is known as the king of romance. His trademark pose – stretching of arms – is considered highly romantic by his fans. Thanks to popular demand, he has recreated the pose multiple times. However, doing something of that sort is only possible in typical commercial entertainers. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan’s next, Jab Harry Met Sejal, is a love story but it is more subtle and real. Stretching of arms might not have gone well with the mood of the film and also the character of Harry essayed by SRK.

At the launch of the song ‘Hawayein’, Shah Rukh Khan was asked if he missed doing his traditional pose. The superstar made a very valid point to this query. He said, “Stretching of arms does not make me or break me. I have done it in a few films and I know that it’s become a thing. Till now, no director has asked me to not stretch my arms because they know I do it only when required. Sometimes, we do it for the fun of it or as a joke. Like Farah would say, “Shah, we’ll do that.” But if a character of say Raees is not meant to do it, I am not going to extend my arms in that film. Given that parameters of commercial cinema that I act in, I still try to retain the characterization as strongly as I can, though I know sometimes that the star overrules the character. But in a film like Fan, it was meant to be since one of the characters that I played was superstar Aryan Khanna, who perhaps is Shah Rukh Khan. But I won’t do it in every film. It’s not like filmmakers tie my hands, fearing that I might stretch it in my trademark style if kept open!”

Shah Rukh Khan, in Jab Harry Met Sejal, will be seen romancing Anushka Sharma. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, it is all set to release on August 4.
