The first quarter of 2020 is almost done, and though there have been fewer releases than normal the overall box office collections have not really been that bad. However, with the Coronavirus pandemic affecting the world, theatres across the globe have shut down along with a host of other services. Due to this, films that were scheduled to release in the second half of March have been postponed.
In this box office report we take a look at the top grossers of 2020 at the Indian box office till date. Not surprisingly, it is the Ajay Devgn starrer Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior that leads the list with a collection of Rs. 279.55 cr. In fact, the business of the film has surpassed the collections of the Tiger Shroff starrer Baaghi 3 that had collected Rs. 93.37 cr. Besides Baaghi 3, the business of Tanhaji has managed to out beat the collections of other release as well like, Street Dancer 3D that collected Rs. 68.28 cr, Subh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan that collected Rs. 60.78 cr. and Malang that collected Rs. 58.99 cr.
Though the first quarter business of Bollywood releases has been hampered, Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior that leads the list also interestingly ranks as the 11th All-time highest grosser. Currently, with a nationwide lockdown being enforced, it remains to be seen how the second quarter of 2020 shapes up. Given the current scenario trade predictions state that once re-started, movie going will take time to come back on track.
