Following the resounding success of Jailer, superstar Rajinikanth announced his next project, an action-thriller tentatively titled Thalaivar 171, in collaboration with director Lokesh Kanagaraj in September 2023. This sent waves of excitement through the entertainment industry. Produced by Sun Pictures, Thalaivar 171 is set to reunite Rajinikanth with music composer Anirudh Ravichander, whose soundtrack enriched the experience of Jailer for audiences worldwide. Adding to the excitement, Lokesh has unveiled the first look poster of Rajinikanth, teasing the title reveal set to happen on April 22, 2024.

On March 28, Lokesh unveiled the first look poster of an upcoming film through a post on X, formerly Twitter. The poster shows Rajinikanth in a rugged yet stylish appearance. The look is accentuated by the incorporation of gold watches fashioned into handcuffs and adorned with gold sunglasses. The poster's background is intricately designed with mechanical parts reminiscent of the inner workings of a watch. Lokesh wrote, “#Thalaivar171TitleReveal on April 22.”

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj, speaking at a recent press conference in Chennai during the song release ‘Inimel’ with Shruti Haasan, shed light on the progress of Thalaivar 171 alongside his upcoming project, Kaithi 2. He revealed, “The pre-production work is still going on. The film will go on floors in June. The entire process will take around one to one and a half years.”

With the backing of Sun Pictures and action choreography by Anbariv, Thalaivar 171 is poised to set new benchmarks in the action-thriller genre.
