Srimanthudu makers RESPOND to plagiarism case after Supreme Court ruling

en Bollywood News Srimanthudu makers RESPOND to plagiarism case after Supreme Court ruling

The case, filed by novelist Sarath Chandra (RD Wilson) in 2017, alleges that the film copied elements from his story Chachentha Prema.

The plagiarism case surrounding the 2015 Telugu film Srimanthudu has resurfaced after the Supreme Court rejected the filmmakers' plea to quash it. The film, starring Mahesh Babu and Shruti Haasan, was a commercial success but has been under legal scrutiny since 2017 due to accusations of copying elements from writer Sarath Chandra's (a.k.a. RD Wilson) work.

Following the Supreme Court's decision, the makers of Srimanthudu released a statement urging the media and public to refrain from reaching premature conclusions. They stated the importance of basing discussions on informed comparisons and legal outcomes while highlighting the distinct nature of the two works in question. The statement concludes by requesting patience and trust in the ongoing legal process.

Meanwhile, Sarath Chandra, the writer who filed the plagiarism lawsuit, shared his thoughts on a local TV channel. He believes the recent statement from the filmmakers came as a result of the Supreme Court's judgment and reiterated his stance that the issue goes beyond financial compensation. He seeks proper credit for his work and believes director Koratala Siva and others involved should face consequences from the courts and the film industry. Sarath also intends to file a case against Mahesh Babu, claiming the actor was partially responsible.

The case will now proceed in the Telangana High Court, with both sides presenting their arguments. While the filmmakers emphasize the ongoing legal process and distinct nature of the works, Sarath seeks wider recognition and potential punishment for those he believes infringed upon his intellectual property.
