South actress Pranitha Subhash defends photo of her performing puja of her husband and hits back at trolls

Pranitha Subhash was at the receiving end of the internet when she shared a photo from her Bheemana Amavasya celebrations.

Readers would be aware that every Hindu caste’s tradition and ritual has one day in a year where a woman fasts for the long life of her husband and is even seen doing his puja. In one such traditional moment observed by actress Pranitha Subhash, the actress took to social media to share a glimpse of the celebrations. In the photo, she is seen sitting on the floor, right next to the feet of her husband Nitin Raju and it hasn’t gone down well with the netizens. The latter started massively trolling the actress for the picture, followed by which, Pranitha slammed them with a befitting reply.

On Monday, Pranitha Subhash decided to share a photo from the Bheemana Amavasya celebrations where women of the household fast for the long life for men of the house. In the photo posted by Subhash, she was seen in a yellow salwar kameez sitting on the floor along with a puja thali, by the feet of her husband Nitin Raju. While this photo received a lot of attention from netizens, it also received flak from them as many accused her of promoting ‘misogyny’. “This is the worst form of slavery, privileged women with internalised patriarchy cause maximum damage to women’s progress," said one of the users whereas yet another one added, “The biggest obstacle feminism faces is when women support and internalize age old patriarchy and they defend it with bs reasons. This is not dharma. Dharma does not teach a person to sit at someone's feet. Dharma teaches us that we are all creations of God and equal."

Hurt by the accusations being hurled at her, Pranitha Subhash decided to slam them and hit back saying, “Offering puja on the occasion of #BheemanaAmavasya this morning. To you, it may be a show of patriarchy (from what I saw last year, with meme pages etc debating this), but to me, it holds great significance. In #SanatanaDharma, most rituals have a story to back why it is significant. And to argue that Hindu rituals are patriarchal is completely baseless as it’s one of the few faiths where female Goddesses are worshipped equally”.
