Shah Rukh Khan or Ranveer Singh? Lokesh Kanagaraj keen on casting Hindi star for Rajnikanth’s Thalaivar 171: Report : Bollywood News

Following the mammoth success of his latest film Jailer, Rajinikanth is busy with his next project, Thalaivar 170. However, he is already teaming up with Vikram and Leo director Lokesh Kanagaraj for an action-thriller, tentatively titled Thalaivar 171. It will also mark the reunion of the superstar with music composer Anirudh Ravichander, who also created the soundtrack for Jailer. Now, the director is keen on casting a Hindi film star in a special role. As per a report in Pinkvilla, he first reached out to Shah Rukh Khan but he reportedly declined the offer. However, the report also stated that he is now in talks with Ranveer Singh.

A source revealed to the publication, “Lokesh even met Shah Rukh Khan and gave him an overview of what he intends to make. While SRK loved the subject and has immense respect for Rajinikanth, he politely conveyed his decision to not feature in the film. After doing a series of appearances in films like Brahmastra, Rocketry, and Tiger 3, SRK now wants to keep himself exclusive for standalone feature films.”

Shah Rukh Khan has extended appearance in his daughter Suhana Khan’s theatrical debut The King which is being helmed by Sujoy Ghosh. “Lokesh understood the plight and respected the thoughts of SRK,” a source added.

Reportedly, he is now in talks with Ranveer Singh. The source added, “While Ranveer has heard the character, he is keen to hear the entire script before signing on for the film. Lokesh has also discussed the possibilities of a spin-off to the character if Thalaivar 171 succeeds.” They intend to have another meeting in 2024.

Produced by Sun Pictures, Thalaivar 171 will have action by Anbariv. The plan is to go on floors in April next year with 2025 as the release target.
