The teaser of Slumdog – 33 Temple Road has sparked curiosity among audiences, offering a glimpse into the gritty world envisioned by filmmaker Puri Jagannadh. Headlined by Vijay Sethupathi, the multilingual action drama also features Samyuktha in a key role, and the actress has now opened up about what attracted her to the project.
The recently released teaser introduces viewers to a dark and intense narrative set against the backdrop of slum communities. While the makers have kept several details under wraps, Samyuktha’s appearances in the teaser hint at a character with multiple layers and contrasting shades.
Speaking about her role in the film, the actress revealed that it differs significantly from characters she has portrayed in the past and offered her an opportunity to explore new territory as a performer. "My character is a very beautiful one. I've never played something like this before. It has contrasting yet extreme variations, and that's what excited me the most. It challenged me as an actor, and I'm really happy that I got the opportunity to portray such a unique character."
The teaser presents Samyuktha in distinctly different looks, suggesting the complexity of her character within the narrative. However, the makers have chosen not to reveal further details, adding to the intrigue surrounding her role.
Directed by Puri Jagannadh, Slumdog – 33 Temple Road stars Vijay Sethupathi in an unconventional role as a visually impaired beggar who is secretly a vigilant protector of vulnerable slum communities. The film is said to draw inspiration from real-life incidents and explores themes of survival, justice and resilience.
Set in Assam, the film moves away from conventional metropolitan backdrops and aims to present a different visual and cultural landscape. Apart from Vijay Sethupathi and Samyuktha, the cast also includes Tabu and Duniya Vijay Kumar in pivotal roles.
The film is produced under the banners of Puri Connects by Puri Jagannadh and Charmme Kaur, in association with JB Motion Pictures. Slumdog – 33 Temple Road is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 19, 2026, and will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam. Apart from this project, Samyuktha also has a busy slate ahead with Swayambhu, The Black Gold and the Amazon Original series Guvvala Cheruvu Ghat.
