Actress Regena Cassandrra continues to champion meaningful change off screen. As the Co-Founder of Democratic Sangha, Regena recently celebrated a proud milestone as 11 rural women leaders were elected as Ward Members in the Gram Panchayat elections held in Karimnagar district, Telangana.
The achievement is a major success for Democratic Sangha’s Rural Women’s Leadership Program (RWLP), an initiative focused on empowering women from marginalised communities through leadership training, civic awareness, and collective action. In its first year alone, the programme formed 25 women’s collectives across villages in the district.
A felicitation ceremony was held at Kala Bharathi, Karimnagar, in the presence of the district administration, where the newly elected women representatives were honoured for their courage and commitment to public service.
Sharing her thoughts, Regena Cassandrra applauded the women for stepping into leadership roles and inspiring others to participate in democratic processes. She emphasised that when women are given the right support and confidence, they can become powerful change-makers within their communities.
With 18 women leaders contesting the elections and 11 emerging victorious, the moment stands as a strong example of grassroots empowerment. For Regena, the win reinforces her belief that real leadership begins at the community level, and that change is most powerful when women lead it.
