For the unversed, last week, Aishwaryaa, while promoting her upcoming film Laal Salaam, made a statement defending her father against those who use the term "Sanghi" to describe him. This sparked debates and discussions on social media, with some misconstruing her words.

On Monday, Rajinikanth addressed the controversy outside the Chennai airport, clarifying his daughter's intent. He stated in Tamil, "My daughter never said that 'Sanghi' was a bad word. She questioned why her father was being branded that way when he is into spirituality."

Aishwaryaa's initial statement, made during the Laal Salaam audio launch on January 26th, was a response to online comments labelling Rajinikanth as a "Sanghi." She admitted to initially not understanding the term's meaning and clarified, "I generally stay away from social media, but my team often tells me what’s happening and keep showing some posts. I used to get angry seeing them. We’re human beings too."

She further added, “In recent times, many people call my father a Sanghi. I didn’t know what it meant. I then asked someone what was the meaning of Sanghi and they said that people who support a particular political party are called Sanghi.”

Her statement, while intended to defend her father, inadvertently sparked misinterpretations. Some sections of the media and online communities misinterpreted her words as suggesting that being a "Sanghi" was inherently bad. This led to criticism and confusion, further escalating the controversy.
