Ponniyin Selvan 2: Trisha Krishnan’s various shades of Kundavai are breathtaking : Bollywood News

The much-anticipated sequel to Ponniyin Selvan, directed by filmmaker Mani Ratnam, is currently preparing for a major release. The first installment of the project, which is based on the same-titled novel by eminent author Kalki Krishnamurthy, was released in theatres in September 2022 to tremendous box office success.

Prior to the release of the sequel, the producers have prepared a new tribute film in celebration of Trisha Krishnan's portrayal of princess Kundavai, for which she has received high accolades from both viewers and critics. Trisha Krishnan can be seen in the clip sporting the top bun and side braid that Princess Kundavai is known for, as well as other coloured traditional silk costumes and jewels from an old temple. As the most intelligent princess of the Chola Dynasty, who contributed significantly to her younger brother Arunmozhi Varman, also known as Raja Raja Chola, becoming a formidable monarch, the gifted actress is positively ethereal.

The creators of Ponniyin Selvan 2 announced that the first song from the project, which was composed by AR Rahman, is preparing for its major release very soon. Unconfirmed rumours claim that the love song ‘Devi’, which depicts the poetic romance between Princess Kundavai and Vanthiyathevan, the beloved character played by Karthi, will be the first single from Mani Ratnam's magnum opus.

With a total box office receipt of Rs. 500 crores, Ponniyen Selvan became the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2022 as well as the fifth-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time.

The films are based on the 1955 novel Ponniyen Selvan by Kalki Krishnamurthy, which is about Rajaraja Chola and his rise to power during the Chola dynasty. On April 28, 2023, Ponniyin Selvan 2 will premiere in theatres all over the world.
