A mix of folklore thrillers, light-hearted comedies, and coming-of-age dramas define Netflix’s South lineup for 2026.

As part of its February 3 slate reveal, Netflix announced three new South Indian projects set to premiere in 2026, underlining its growing focus on regionally rooted yet globally appealing stories. The lineup includes the Telugu series Super Subbu, the folklore thriller Takshakudu, and the coming-of-age drama Made in Korea.

Takshakudu stands out for its intense premise and casting choices, marking a significant moment for both its lead actors. Directed by Vinod Anantoju and produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi under the banner of Sithara Entertainments, Takshakudu is a dark folklore thriller that follows a blind tribesman and his loyal dog as they set out on a perilous quest. Driven by loss and grief, the man seeks to confront the evil force responsible for burning his village to ashes and killing the love of his life on a cursed night. The film stars Anand Deverakonda, brother of Vijay Deverakonda, in the lead role, alongside Nitanshi Goel, who makes her South debut after gaining acclaim for Laapataa Ladies.

Speaking about the film, the team shared, "Takshakudu allowed us to step into a world of folklore, fear and survival and to tell that story with honesty and restraint. Following a blind tribal man through a dark landscape, the film demanded a unified vision and deep collaboration from everyone involved. It has been a challenging and deeply rewarding journey, and we are grateful to Netflix for supporting this ambition and taking it to audiences worldwide. We are thrilled that the film is part of the Next on Netflix 2026 showcase."

Adding a lighter contrast to the slate is Super Subbu, Netflix’s first Telugu series. Directed by Mallik Ram, who has also co-written the show with Ramesh Eligeti, the comedy-drama is produced by Rajiv Chilaka and Bharath Laxmipati under Chilaka Productions, with Akshita Akki serving as executive producer. The series stars Sundeep Kishan as an unlucky teacher forced to teach sex education in a remote village, despite being a virgin himself. Mithila Palkar, Murali Sharma, Maanasa Choudhary, and Getup Srinu round out the cast.

Completing the trio is Made in Korea, a coming-of-age drama directed and written by R.A. Karthik. Produced by Sreenidhi Sagar under Rise East Entertainment, the film stars Priyanka Mohan and Korean actor Park Hye-Jin. Set in Seoul, the story follows Shenba, a young woman from Tamil Nadu whose dream of visiting Korea takes an unexpected turn, leading to a journey of identity, resilience, and friendship.

The team spoke about the project stating, “Made In Korea is a heartfelt coming-of-age story about identity, resilience, and finding connection far from home. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Seoul, the movie explores what it means to start over emotionally, culturally, and personally. What excited us most was telling an authentic, slice-of-life story that celebrates the growing cultural connection between India and Korea. Partnering with Netflix allows this intimate yet universal story to travel seamlessly across borders and resonate with audiences around the world.”
