Mahesh Babu and SS Rajamouli’s much-anticipated collaboration, tentatively titled SSMB29, is already generating massive buzz. Following the completion of a filming schedule in Kenya, fresh reports circulating online suggest that the film’s budget has reportedly reached a staggering Rs 1,188 crore.
For those unfamiliar, the film will not only feature Mahesh Babu in the lead but also stars Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran in pivotal roles.
Reports Hint at Massive Budget and Global Scale
Speculation about the film’s budget gained traction after Kenyan news portal The Star reported that Rajamouli met Musalia Mudavadi, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, on Tuesday, following the Kenya shoot schedule. According to their report, the film is estimated to have a production budget of $135 million (approximately Rs 1,188 crore). The report further claims that the movie is planned as a two-part cinematic saga and will be released in over 120 countries.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time such numbers have surfaced. Back in July, another Kenyan outlet, The Citizen, had reported the film’s budget at $116 million (around Rs 1,022 crore), indicating that the project may have since scaled up in scope and ambition.
Kenya’s Landscapes to Feature Prominently in SSMB29
On September 2, Musalia Mudavadi took to X (formerly Twitter) to share glimpses of his meeting with Rajamouli. Accompanied by photographs, his post praised Kenya’s landscapes and their role in the upcoming film. An excerpt from the post read: “From the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara to the scenic Naivasha, the rugged Samburu, and the iconic Amboseli, Kenya’s landscapes are now etched into what is set to become the largest film production in Asia. Scheduled for release in over 120 countries, the movie is expected to reach more than a billion viewers worldwide.”

Adding to the excitement, fans can look forward to a major reveal in November, as hinted earlier by Rajamouli. In a note shared with Mahesh Babu’s fans, he teased the film’s epic scale: “The story and scope of this film are so vast that I feel mere pictures or press conferences cannot do it justice. We are working on something to showcase the essence, depth, and immersive world we are creating… We are trying to make it a never-before-seen reveal.”
