Kannada actor Kichcha Sudeep has filed a defamation case against producer MN Kumar, who had accused him of accepting a token advance payment for a film but subsequently ignoring him.

As per a report by Zoom, Sudeep appeared before the court in Bengaluru on Monday and said that he was confident that the truth would come out soon. He also said, “I wouldn’t have survived in the industry for such a long period of time if I had committed mistakes. It becomes a contempt of court if I speak about the entire issue, let the court decide.”

For the unversed, Kumar had held a media conference and accused Sudeep of evading him after accepting remuneration for agreeing to do a film, seven years ago. Kumar alleged that he incurred substantial losses as a result of Sudeep's failure to meet his responsibilities in a Kannada film project that was scheduled to begin after the release of the movie Vikrant Rona.

Refuting the allegation, Sudeep sent a legal notice citing defamation to Kumar, and sought Rs 10 crore in damages, along with an unconditional apology for having made such statements. This apology will have to be published in all relevant print and visual media, the notice states. It further mentions that Kumar has made false and illegal claims against Sudeep and that the matter of having paid the actor is a figment of the producer's imagination.

Before responding to the allegations legally, Sudeep had penned a cryptic post on Twitter. "Let it be known: my goodness is not a tool for manipulation or misuse. It shines brightest when genuine, and I won't let arrogance taint its radiance. Stay humble, stay true," he noted.
