After the success of Kantara in 2022, the franchise’s next installment, Kantara: Chapter 1, is progressing steadily towards its theatrical release which continues to be maintained on October 2, 2025. In an official update from Hombale Films, the makers have confirmed that the project is currently in its final phase of production and have urged audiences to refrain from speculating or relying on unverified information.

Addressing several rumours surrounding the film and its possible delay, Hombale Films issued a social media statement recently in which their team shared, “We’re right on track, and everything is progressing as planned. Kantara Chapter 1 will release in theatres worldwide on October 2, 2025. Trust us, it’ll be worth the wait. We kindly urge everyone to avoid speculation and refrain from sharing unverified updates.”

Following the release of the first posters, which showcased actor-director Rishab Shetty in a striking new avatar, anticipation for the prequel has grown significantly. While fans await further reveals, the production house emphasized that official updates will be released in due time.

One of the highlights of the upcoming film is a large-scale war sequence, which the team claims is among the biggest ever attempted in Indian cinema. Shot over 45–50 days in a specially chosen 25-acre location in the mountainous regions of Karnataka, the sequence involved over 3,000 people, including 500 trained fighters. To prepare for the action scenes, Rishab Shetty underwent three months of rigorous training in horse riding, sword fighting, and Kalaripayattu.

The production team collaborated with both Indian and international stunt specialists to choreograph this extended action segment. According to sources, the makers aimed to push the boundaries of visual storytelling by combining large-scale set pieces with authentic, grounded action.

Kantara, which resonated with audiences across India and internationally, was celebrated for its rooted storytelling and cultural authenticity. With Kantara: Chapter 1, the scale and ambition appear to be significantly expanded. Though the film serves as a prequel, it aims to deepen the mythos introduced in the original and reach new audiences globally. Produced by Hombale Films, Kantara: Chapter 1 continues to be positioned as one of the most ambitious Indian projects currently in production.
