Kannada actor and filmmaker Rakshit Shetty has landed in legal trouble over the alleged unauthorized use of songs in his recent film Bachelor Party. MRT Music, a music rights firm, filed a complaint against Shetty and his production house, Paramvah Studios, accusing them of using songs from the movies Nyaya Ellide and Gaalimaathu without proper permissions.
Reports in The Hindu and India Today reveal that the controversial songs reportedly appeared in Bachelor Party, which premiered on Prime Video in March 2024. According to reports, discussions between Shetty and MRT Music regarding the rights to these songs did occur in January 2024, but negotiations were unsuccessful.
Following the complaint, the Bengaluru Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Shetty and his production house. The investigation is ongoing, and officials have issued a notice to Shetty, requiring him to respond to the allegations.
This isn't the first time Shetty has faced copyright concerns. Back in 2016, his production house was involved in a legal battle with Lahari Music over the use of interludes in the song ‘Hey Who Are You’ from the film Kirik Party.
Rakshit Shetty is a well-respected figure in Kannada cinema. He has garnered critical acclaim for his acting and filmmaking skills, receiving a National Film Award and two Karnataka State Film Awards.
