Kamal Haasan travelled to the United States in 2024 to learn about Artificial Intelligence. In a recent interview with India Today, the actor, known for his role in Thug Life, discussed his experience with AI and its impact on the world of cinema. Haasan stated that AI is here to stay, but emphasized that it shouldn’t be seen as something to fear.
Speaking to us, he said, “I went to the US with the intention of learning AI. But, it's beyond me and beyond all of us. I feel we shouldn't touch it without proper understanding.”
He then pointed at AR Rahman and said, “There are people who have started handling AI and I’m sure Rahman knows it better. I’ve dabbled with it.” For those unaware, Rahman used AI to recreate the voices of late singers Bamba Bakya and Shahul Hameed for a song in Rajinikanth’s Lal Salaam.
The Vikram actor then mentioned that the use of AI is still in its early stages. He added, “When it comes to cinema visuals, it’s at a nascent stage. It’s a broad spectrum. AI will be there in your life, my life and everyone else's. It's like our computer. That's how I think. We should not feel threatened by AI.”
Kamal Haasan is preparing for the release of his upcoming film Thug Life. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film marks a reunion with the Nayakan actor after 37 years. The movie boasts an ensemble cast, including Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Nasser, Sanjana Krishnamoorthy, Ashok Selvan, and others.
Thug Life is set to release in theatres on June 5.
