Actor-politician Kamal Haasan has gifted a car to Coimbatore-based woman Sharmila, who recently quit her job as a bus driver due to a controversy. The car was provided to Sharmila on behalf of Kamal Haasan's cultural centre, Kamal Panbattu Maiam, with the intention of enabling her to become a driver-entrepreneur.
Sharmila was the first woman bus driver in Coimbatore, and she faced a lot of discrimination and harassment during her time on the job. The controversy that led to her quitting her job arose when she issued a travel ticket to DMK MP Kanimozhi. Some people criticized her for issuing a ticket to a politician, while others accused her of being biased towards the DMK.
Kamal Haasan was concerned about the recent debate surrounding Sharmila, and he emphasized that she should not be limited to being just a driver. He said, "My belief is to create many Sharmilas," and expressed his desire to empower women like her. Sharmila will now use the car for a rental service, embarking on her journey as an entrepreneur.
Kamal Haasan's gesture reflects his determination to stand alongside women and provide them with opportunities for growth and success. It is a reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can have a big impact on someone's life.
Speaking of the professional front, the 68-year-old actor has also joined the cast of Nag Ashwin's upcoming multilingual sci-fi movie, Project K. The highly anticipated film features leading actors Prabhas and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles, with production helmed by C Aswani Dutt, founder of Vyjayanthi Movies.
