Veteran actor and filmmaker Kamal Haasan has extended his heartfelt wishes to young director Nithin Ram ahead of the latter’s highly anticipated Broadway-style play, The Motherf**ker With The Hat, which will be staged on October 26 at the NCPA Experimental Theatre, Mumbai. Known for championing innovation and creativity across art forms, Kamal Haasan’s words of encouragement have added an extra spark to the upcoming production.
The Vikram star, who has always been vocal about nurturing new talent and celebrating diverse storytelling, took to social media to share his appreciation for Nithin’s efforts. The play, co-directed by Nithin Ram and Aakash Prabhakar, is an adaptation of Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis’ explosive dark comedy. Set in New York, the story follows Jackie, a recovering addict who tries to rebuild his life after prison. His fragile world begins to unravel when he discovers another man’s hat in his lover’s apartment — a discovery that spirals into chaos, exploring themes of love, betrayal, addiction, and redemption.
Bringing this complex narrative to an Indian stage marks a bold and ambitious move by the young directors. Their collaboration aims to bridge the gap between Western theatre sensibilities and Indian audience experiences, offering something refreshingly different from mainstream stage productions.
