Jailer audio launch: Rajinikanth opens up about alcoholism, calls it “biggest mistake” of his life : Bollywood News

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth opened up about his drinking problem at the audio launch of his upcoming film Jailer on Friday. He called alcoholism the biggest mistake of his life and asked his fans to not abuse alcohol but enjoy it responsibly.

"If there was no alcohol in my life, I would have served society. Alcoholism is the biggest mistake in life," he was quoted as saying. He also added that if not for alcohol, he would have done far better in life and become a bigger star than he is today.

Rajinikanth addressed the issue of alcoholism in his 2018 film Kaala. In the film, his character loses his wife due to his carelessness after getting drunk. That was the first time the actor, who till then had used alcohol and cigarettes as style statements, depicted them in a bad light.

Coming back to the Jailer audio launch, Rajinikanth also defended Jailer's director Nelson Dilipkumar against backlash from Beast's poor reviews. Rajinikanth claimed that Beast was a hit despite the poor reviews and that the distributors weren't hurt by the film.

Jailer is Rajinikanth's 169th film and is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The film also stars Jackie Shroff, Ramya Krishnan, Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Vasanth Ravi, and Tamannaah in important roles. It is scheduled to be released in theatres on August 10.
